With this in mind I wanted to share with everyone some great words of wisdom from a leadership and personal development guru, Robin Sharma. If you've not stopped by his site, I highly recommend you do. His wisdom is highly sought after by business leaders and the wealthy the world over, but he also shares a lot of his knowledge for free for the rest of us. I've signed up for his emails and I'm always impressed at how relevant his material is.
The most recent email deals with dedication, persistence, and eventually mastery. Today we live in a world of where more people have a sense of entitlement. Where does such thought come from? Previously in order to be considered a professional at any given task, years of practice and dedication were required in order to prove oneself.
He uses a great example of Michael Jordan, who spent early mornings and late nights dedicated to perfecting his game, and becoming the best he could at his chosen field. Sharma says that when it comes to business and personal development, the same school of thought is not shared, and we expect instant results because of who we are, where we came from or who we know.
“There can be no great results without great commitment.”

I can relate to this topic because I truly have love for writing, social media, and changes in the field of marketing and business communities. I write this blog day after day not to gain numbers, though in time as I garner more attention it's a measurable gauge of my success as a writer, but rather to give myself a platform to share, work on my writing, and build community. I work hard at this, every day writing, eventually turning my rants and idle thoughts into posts that I choose to share on Daily Slackr.
If only more people were committed to such growth. In my world I look up to people such as Chris Brogan of ChrisBrogan.com, who shares an amazingly wealth of information on community building for businesses and bloggers, and how to utilize web 2.0 tools for an advantage; Cheryl Smith of CultureSmith Consulting who blogs with a personal touch, incorporating family experiences and using practical knowledge to share with us ways to learn and grow and people in a larger online community; Jim Tobin of Ignite Social Media who amazingly engages the business community on the use of social media tools and how it relates to customers. These are just a few people that I find interesting and feel have definitely honed their craft to become industry leaders in their field.
Robin Sharma definitely has a handle on what we have lost as a whole in terms of a culture, less time working, and more time expecting.

Quentin Tarantino says to take the money you would have spend on going to movie school and make a movie. If you read any writing magazine, almost every issue will have at least one article whose advise is "write daily". And if you go to an acting audition without preparing for it everyday (and i have seen this happen more than once) you can be assured that it shows. If the "creative types" with cushy lives have to do it, bet your bottom dollar that us regular shlubs have to do it too.
Luis,
Thanks for the mention. We're moving along slowly, but more and more people are getting it.
