The Heart of Community in Social Media Club San Antonio

As co-founder of the local Social Media Club, it's always amazing to see the minds we have in our city. Some will say that our city is laid back, moves at its own pace, is perhaps even boring, and at times I feel like that, but I came from L.A. before I came to San Antonio. Nevertheless, beneath the exterior that so many presume, are the minds of amazing individuals each doing something in their own way to progress not just themselves, but rather everyone around them. The benefits felt from this time of cohesion are immense, but even more so when they openly share ideas for others to grow just as they did.

Tonight's Social Media Club meeting was one of those nights where the heart of our community shined through and everyone was better for it. Tonight's meeting was called "Brain Jam" and focused on users sharing their project, idea, or problem, and then the community having five minutes to share their solutions and approaches.

The interaction was unbeatable. There was no fear, only excitement, enthusiasm and action items. I truly feel that everyone that left there had something in their mind to accomplish, and everyone who shared really defined what it means to be in a community of supporters.

Building Community is More than Social Networks

My cohort and confidant in Social Media Club is Jennifer Navarrete, she is the one who brought me on this journey, and we're both encouraging others to see social media as something beyond the computer screen, and beyond the social networks. Going to real world events like our event tonight or the many social events throughout the year are great example of getting out the door and meeting people. We should all be so lucky to surround ourselves with people that edify one another, helping us reach our true potential.

I'm happy to be a part of this group, and I'm even more proud of the people that turned out tonight. A huge thanks to Cambria Suites for hosting us, they offered a great spread and really went out for us. If you want to catch what happened at our meeting tonight, follow the hash tag #smcsa.
