As a lover of seafood I'm also familiar with the lives that depend on the ocean for food, money, and future prospects. Fishing is much like farming, there are seasons, hard work involved, and the slightest change in anything can cause drastic things to happen.
Such is the case with the BP oil spill. Citizens that live around the Gulf are already feeling the impact with many more yet to come. Already lives are changing, economies are being threatened, businesses are on the brink of collapse, and entire families are left wondering what to do next.
National Day of Action
Next week on August 25, 2010, National Day of Action is happening in cities nationwide, and CitizenGulf plans on taking a stand on the lives both human and animal threatened by the disaster that has taken place.
On August 25, we're at it again -- this time hosting a nationwide series of fundraising meetups to benefit Catholic Charities of New Orleans. Proceeds will go directly to education for the children of fishermen hit hard by the spill.I encourage you to support the one closest to you. If you'd like to put a meetup together to support this cause, be sure to visit the page and get going because we're down to a week away. It's a worthwhile cause for the futures of these families that depended on the sea to provide a way of life. Now it's time to help expand those horizons and ensure that future generations are diverse enough in their skill set to remain productive members for themselves and their families.
I'm looking forward to sharing some of the stories that I am able to capture locally here for city's event, will you share yours with me?
To keep up with the event you can follow them on Twitter and Facebook!
